Shailaja Fennell is the Acting Director of the Centre of South Asian Studies for 2022-23, Reader in Regional Transformation and Economic Security in the Department of Land Economy and a Fellow of Jesus College. She conducts research in Asian and African communities and has recently conducted investigations on sustainable food production and rural development in India, gender norms and gender gaps in development interventions in South and South-east Asia, and provision of public goods and the role of partnerships in both Asian and African economies.
